24 to 48 Hours Before Your Spray Tan
This is the time to get all of your major prep out of the way.
Exfoliate your entire body, paying extra attention to dry areas like your elbows, knees, ankles and hands. Removing dead skin helps your spray tan apply more evenly and fade more naturally.
If you shave, wax or get any other hair removal services, try to do those at least 24 hours before your appointment. This gives your skin time to settle before your tan.
You’ll also want to schedule manicures, pedicures, massages and facials before your spray tan whenever possible.
The Day of Your Appointment
Come to your spray tan appointment with clean, dry skin.
Avoid applying lotion, body oils, perfume, deodorant or other products immediately before your appointment unless your spray tan artist tells you otherwise. Products left on the skin can create a barrier between your skin and the tanning solution.
Wear loose, comfortable clothing and shoes after your appointment. Dark colors are always a good choice, especially if you're receiving a tan with a cosmetic bronzer.

A rapid spray tan gives you a shorter rinse window, making it a great option when you don't want to wear your initial tan for as long.

Remember, rapid does not necessarily mean your final tan develops instantly. Your color will continue developing after your first rinse, so don't panic if you look lighter immediately afterward.
After Your Spray Tan
Your first rinse is important, so follow the rinse time your spray tan artist gives you.
Once your tan has fully developed, keeping your skin hydrated is one of the best things you can do to extend your results. Moisturize regularly, avoid excessive exfoliation and be mindful that long hot showers, pools and other activities that speed up skin exfoliation can shorten the life of your tan.
