RAPID VS OVERNIGHT. WHATS THE DIFFERENCE?
If you've ever gone to book a spray tan and wondered whether you should choose rapid or overnight, you're definitely not alone! It's one of the most common questions I get from clients, especially those booking their very first spray tan.
The good news? Both options can give you a beautiful, natural-looking tan. The biggest difference is how long you need to wait before your first rinse.
At Beach Bum Club Tans in New Port Richey, Florida, we offer both options because everyone's schedule is a little different. Let's break it down!
What Is an Overnight Spray Tan?
An overnight spray tan is the traditional option. After your appointment, you'll leave the solution on your skin for approximately 8 hours before rinsing.
A lot of my clients love booking their appointments in the evening, going home, relaxing, and rinsing the next morning.
It's simple, convenient, and a great option if you don't have anywhere else to be that night.
An overnight tan might be perfect for you if:
You prefer evening appointments.
You don't mind waiting 8 hours to rinse.
You want to go home, get comfortable, and let your tan develop.
You'd rather not worry about timing a rinse in the middle of your day.
What Is a Rapid Spray Tan?
A rapid spray tan is exactly what it sounds like: a solution that allows you to rinse sooner!
Instead of waiting 8 hours, our rapid spray tans typically allow you to rinse in 3–4 hours, depending on your desired results.
This makes rapid tanning a great option for clients with busy schedules who don't want to spend the entire day or night waiting to shower.
But here's something important that a lot of people don't realize.
Rapid doesn't mean your final tan develops faster!
The rapid formula allows you to remove the initial bronzer sooner, but your color will continue developing over the next several hours.
So if you rinse and feel like your tan looks lighter than expected, don't panic. That's completely normal!
A rapid tan might be perfect for you if:
You have plans later in the day.
You prefer morning or afternoon appointments.
You don't want to sleep in your spray tan.
You want to rinse sooner and get back to your routine.
Does a Rapid Spray Tan Get Darker Than an Overnight Tan?
Not necessarily!
One of the biggest misconceptions is that a rapid spray tan automatically gives you a darker result.
Both rapid and overnight solutions can be customized to achieve different depths of color.
At Beach Bum Club Tans, we take your natural skin tone, undertones, and desired results into consideration when choosing your solution.
Whether you want something subtle or a deeper bronze, we'll help choose the best option for you.
Rapid vs. Overnight: A Quick Comparison
Rapid Spray Tan: Rinse in approximately 3–4 hours, making it a great option for busy schedules, daytime appointments, or anyone who prefers not to sleep in their spray tan. Your color will continue developing after your first rinse, with final results typically appearing within 24 hours.
Overnight Spray Tan: Rinse after approximately 8 hours, making it perfect for evening appointments or anyone who prefers to let their tan develop overnight. Your color will continue settling after rinsing, with final results typically appearing within 24 hours.
Color & Longevity: Both options are completely customizable to your skin tone and desired shade. Neither is automatically darker or longer-lasting than the other. With proper prep and aftercare, both can last approximately 7–10 days.
Does One Last Longer Than the Other?
With proper preparation and aftercare, both rapid and overnight spray tans can last approximately 7–10 days.
How long your tan lasts depends more on your skin, preparation, and aftercare than whether you choose rapid or overnight.
A few things that can help maintain your results include:
Exfoliating properly before your appointment.
Following your recommended rinse time.
Using a spray tan-safe body wash.
Moisturizing regularly after your tan has developed.
Avoiding excessive exfoliation, long hot showers, and frequent swimming.
We also carry spray tan-friendly aftercare products at Beach Bum Club Tans to help you maintain your results between appointments!
Which Spray Tan Should You Book?
My recommendation? Choose whichever option works best with your schedule!
If you're coming in after work and plan on heading home for the night, an overnight spray tan might be the easiest choice.
If you're booking earlier in the day and want to rinse before dinner or bedtime, rapid is probably going to be your best friend.
And if you're still unsure, don't stress! We'll go over everything during your appointment and make sure you understand exactly when to rinse.
